Frequently asked questions

Everything about portals, files, links, and plans. If your question isn't here, we're one email away at [email protected].

The basics

What is Modulat?

Modulat turns your Figma prototypes and project links into clean, branded short links, and gives every client a portal: one polished page that gathers the prototypes, links, notes, and files you want to share. It's made for designers, studios, and teams who want sharing work to feel as considered as the work itself.

Does Modulat replace Dropbox or Google Drive?

No, and it isn't trying to. Drive and Dropbox are where you store and sync everything you own. Modulat is for presenting: a branded space where you hand a client exactly what they need to see, the live prototype, the key files, a short note, with none of the folder clutter or a generic share link. It's the front door to the work, not the filing cabinet behind it. Plenty of teams keep their working files in Drive and use Modulat for the client-facing handoff.

Who is it for?

Product and brand designers, studios, and agencies who share prototypes and deliverables with clients and stakeholders, and want it to look professional every time.

Portals & filesUploads, limits, domains

What is a client portal?

A portal is a branded page at your own subdomain (like acme.modulat.co) or a custom domain you own. You choose what goes on it: prototype links, any URL, rich notes, embedded videos, and downloadable files, arranged into sections. Share it by link, and lock it with a password if you like. Use one per client, per project, or for an internal team.

How do I add files to a portal?

Open the portal builder in the dashboard, choose Add to portal, and pick File. Drop in a PDF, an image, a zip, whatever you're handing off, and it appears as a clean download card on the portal. Add as many as you like, up to your plan's storage.

What's the file size limit?

Up to 25 MB per file. For anything larger, like a long video or a heavy asset pack, link it from where it already lives. Modulat embeds Loom, YouTube, Vimeo, and Figma, and turns any other URL into a tidy link.

How much storage do I get?

Storage is per account and pooled across all your portals: Solo 5 GB, Studio 25 GB, Agency 100 GB. The Free plan is for links and doesn't include file uploads.

What file types can I upload?

PDF, PNG, JPG, GIF, SVG, WebP, ZIP, DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, TXT, and CSV. The accepted list can be extended over time, so if you need another format, just ask.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes, on paid plans. Point a domain you own (like portal.yourstudio.com) at a portal and the whole thing, the page and its links, runs on your brand. Every portal also gets a free branded subdomain to start.

Can I password-protect a portal?

Yes. Add a password in the portal's settings and visitors get a branded unlock screen before they can see anything. You can protect individual links the same way.

Links & sharing

What can I turn into a link?

Figma prototypes and any URL. Create links right inside Figma with the plugin as you work, or from the web dashboard. Every link is short, branded, and trackable.

Do I need the Figma plugin?

No. Everything works from the web dashboard. The plugin just makes it quicker to spin up a link without leaving your file.

Can links expire or be password-protected?

Yes, on paid plans. Set an expiry date so a link stops working after a deadline, or gate it with a password. You can also choose how a link opens: a direct redirect, an embedded view, or a branded page.

What analytics do I get?

Link clicks and portal views, with 30-day charts and top referrers, plus lifetime totals. Enough to know a client actually opened what you sent, without turning into a surveillance tool.

Plans & billing

Is there a free plan?

Yes. Free gives you branded short links and the link list, with no credit card. Client portals, custom domains, uploads, analytics, and team seats begin on Solo.

How does pricing work?

Plans are priced per account by how many client portals you need, across Solo, Studio, and Agency, with seats and storage bundled in. Annual billing saves you two months. The full breakdown is on the pricing page.

Can I cancel anytime, and what happens to my portals?

Cancel whenever you like. You keep your plan until the end of the period you've paid for. If you downgrade, nothing is deleted: your portals simply go private, and everything comes back exactly as it was the moment you resubscribe.
